YOUTH PROGRAMS

Safety, Tolerance And Respect Superstars
STARS (Safety, Tolerance And Respect Superstars) is PCTN's flagship youth program, a series of eight to twelve weekly sessions for children ages 8 to 11. Guided dialogue, music, crafts, stories, interactive games, and role-playing are some of the components that enable kids to have fun while strengthening values and making positive changes in behavior and attitudes. Each session focuses on a different virtue or theme with related activities.

Objectives:
  • To learn respect and esteem for self and others
  • To appreciate differences (whether skin color, ethnicity, abilities/disabilities, gender, physical size, beliefs)
  • To gain an understanding of put-downs and bullying and the hurt they cause
  • To acquire practical tools to deal with bullying situations, whether as the victim or bystander
  • To create healthy relationships through honesty and kindness
  • To enrich the ability to see the other person’s point of view and to understand the other person’s feelings.

You Have the Power!
You Have the Power! is PCTN’s new, interactive, and focused bullying prevention program, a two to three-hour program which can be presented in classrooms and afterschool settings. The curriculum was crafted using a variety of resources with excellent credentials and acknowledged effectiveness. The program incorporates video, guided discussion and role-play.

Objectives:
  • Raise awareness about bullying and enhance youths’ understanding of the nature of bullying and its effects.
  • Understand different roles, i.e. the bullying triangle: victim, bully, bystanders/witnesses.
  • Become more empathetic.
  • Learn practical tools (words and behaviors) to cope with bullying situations: helping the victims/targeted kids gain confidence and empowerment; helping bystanders feel empowered to stand up, speak up & become allies.
