STARS
Safety, Tolerance And Respect Superstars

STARS is PCTN's flagship Youth Bullying Prevention program, a series of twelve weekly sessions for children age 7 to 12, conducted by PCTN employees and volunteers as part of the Paradise Boys & Girls Club After-School Program. Guided dialogue, music, arts and crafts, interactive games, journaling, and role-playing are some of the components that help kids have fun while learning to create positive changes in their behavior and attitudes. Each session focuses on a different virtue or theme.

STARS empowers both the victims and the bystanders of bullying, and instills greater understanding and empathy in the children who do the bullying. Participants are less likely to suffer the negative effects of intolerant behavior that can instill fear, injure their self-esteem and mental health, and impair their academic performance.

The program is offered at Paradise Elementary School, Pine Ridge School, and Ponderosa Elementary School. Many children enthusiastically return to participate in subsequent sessions.

The Camp has been temporarily discontinued due to lack of funding for a coordinator.

Camp Friendship
is nonviolence summer day camp for children ages 8 through 13, held at the Paradise Recreation Center. Any child who has been bullied, who has bullied others, or who has been a bystander to bullying is eligible to participate. Many activities mirror the STARS program, which is the inspiration for Camp Friendship. Other activities include a real tool belt filled with "tools" crafted by the campers: Ring of Respect, Friendship Bracelet, Compass of Cooperation, and Peace Passport.
