Unity in Diversity Festival - June
Held at Terry Ashe Park in Paradise, this afternoon event entertains all ages and celebrates the unity of the human spirit. Activities include musical and dance performers from diverse ethnicities and cultures, fun and educational games and crafts for children, food, handicrafts, and prize drawings. Special emphasis is on outreach to families, which brings many children and parents to the festival. The purpose of this festival is twofold: to raise community consciousness of the value of cultural diversity, and to provide an enjoyable time for the entire community in a safe and welcoming setting. Each year attendance increases and more minorities and ethnically mixed families participate.

Community leaders, knowledgeable speakers, and concerned/interested citizens address controversial and/or relevant issues such as safety, rights, and the dignity of all citizens. Topics have included civil rights and race relations, world cultures, special needs individuals, life challenges for LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning) young adults, parenting, "Religion: the Missing Piece in Diversity Work," "Stories from Palestine," and most recently "Speaking Up About Bullying and Intolerance."
